As I told somewhere else, a
self-proclaimed artist whose only info I have about is that he was
(hope he still is)
Belgian(*), dropped by in these surroundings in the eighties, and fell
in love with this wonderful semi-desertic scenery made of reddish earth
and pink granite boulders (see Tafraout
pics to have an idea of the colours). Those massive
stones, sometimes rounded, sometimes in mushroom
shapes, are scattered around as if a giant
hand had thrown them at random. This guy had the
bright idea of
going there, in the middle of nowhere, to paint many of those boulders
in various blue and red tones, and making some sign on them,
following his artistic inspiration. We have arrived there thanks to a
local guide who was trying to convince us to visit his family shop
(Berber handicrafts and carpets) in Tafraout. He stepped onto our
rented car and lead me driving thru a place only reacheable by goats
and camels, a very dirty unpaved desert road with many forkings leading
into nowhere. No signs, I would never be able to go there again... Our
guide is the guy with a blue dress in the pics.
You may decide yourself wether or not the work may be
considered a piece of art, I can certainly say the the trip
was worth it, both for the human and (maybe even more) for Mother
Nature's work of art you can admire, and also for the adventurous drive
thru the desert...!!!
(*) If any of you has further infos on this artist, like his name and
his works, please
because I am curious to know
some more about him.
